Exclude competitors from clicking on your Adwords

adwords click fraud postWe all know the problem – are competitors clicking on our Adwords to use up our budget?  Especially in very niche markets where traffic levels are low, competition is high with the result that clicks can cost £10 or more, it can be a real problem.

Tucked away and rather hard to find there is a link which allows you to exclude specific IP addresses – up to 100 – from seeing your ads.  Full instructions are available at http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61493 which I found in an excellent blog post  I found about click fraud

A useful tool for finding a website’s IP address is available at Self SEO

Competitors are the big problem but I have also had one client who kept clicking on his own ads at a sales meeting to demonstrate how good they were.  The only problem with excluding clients’ own IP addresses is that it can result in urgent phone calls asking why their ads aren’t showing!
