Can you Spot the Difference Between White Hat and Black Hat SEO?

We all know how important it is to be on the first page or second page of Google. However, did you know that Webmasters who try and take shortcuts and cheat the engines can end up paying a very high price? A recent article gave the example of an SEO company spending about 80 hours work per domain just to unravel the mess left by black hat and spamming practices when a company discovered their domain names had been banned by Google. Every Webmaster chasing online traffic needs to be aware of 'best practices' when promoting a site in order to stay out of trouble. If you employ a company to carry out SEO, make sure you ask them about the techniques they use before they touch your site and that you understand the answers so you can spot any dubious practices. It could save you a very great deal of money as well as heartache.

Of course, a great way to be walked through 'best practices' in Search Engine Marketing is to attend the next Search Engine Workshop on 5th - 7th April at Richmond-upon-Thames.
